Down the Hassayampa River
I got to ride along with an Arizona explorer and photographer, Ryan Sturgis. There was no trouble getting through the river bed thanks to his well equipped Toyota Tacoma.
For this shot, I hiked up river barefoot on the soft wet sand and captured what was, in my opinion, the most scenic area of the trail.
NAPP Image of the Week
This shot of cappuccino pudding was selected as the Image of the Week by the Larry Becker, Executive Director of NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals).
The image was taken at the Alto Restaurant at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale. It was one of 15+ recipes that we photographed, and the only one I sampled until it was gone. My concern over insulting the chefs, by not trying each of the dishes they offered, was replaced by the popularity I gained each time I passed another gourmet meal onto the staff.
Knoell & Quidort Architects + GM Hunt Builders
I originally photographed this contemporary home in Troon for Knoell & Quidort Architects, which was featured in Luxe several months later. Recently GM Hunt Builders contacted me to license the images for their advertising. Another example of how the best homes tend to be a collaboration between a great architect, builder, and designer + the skilled craftsman that work with them.

Red Moon Custom Home in DC Ranch
I was contacted by Red Moon Custom Homes to photograph several spaces for an upcoming company advertisement in AZ Magazine. The DC Ranch residence, was designed with contemporary architecture and extensive stone finishes inside and out.
The challenge was to find a exterior view that would tell the story of the home in a single shot. After an extensive walk-around we settled on this view, since it incorporated both interior and exterior design as well as fire and water features.
Upscale Best Western Atrea in Waco, TX
While traveling to Waco, Texas I enjoyed something that is quite rare in Arizona…rain. I was asked to photograph a Best Western Atrea Hotel…a more upscale version of the familiar Best Western hotel chain. Although the rain was quite refreshing, it made exterior shots rather challenging. Fortunately, there were enough breaks to capture a day time and evening exterior.
I worked with BW Development Manager, Holly Krecklow whose detailed sense of staging ensured that every space looked immaculate.

Capturing the artist and his art
In late 2009, I met Mario Loya, Creative Director of Artisan Design Group. As it turned out I had unknowingly photographed several of the projects he worked on, both in Phoenix and Houston, originally for an interior designer who contracts his services. He is an artist of the highest degree and we hit it off immediately.
After photographing his home and studio we met several months later for a portrait session. You can’t tell from the photo, but we were working in 110 degree temperatures. Needless to say it was a short session. Check out his award-winning work at www.artisandesignandstudio.com
17,000 sq. ft. estate in the Woodlands
I traveled to Texas for designer, Andrea Garrity of Garrity Design Group, to photograph a 17,000 sq. ft. estate in the Woodlands of north Houston, Texas. The architectural scale of the home was magnificent, as were the interiors due to Andrea’s award-winning talent. She will be submitting the images into the ASID Design Excellence Awards for the Houston chapter, and is hoping to land a future editorial feature in Architectural Digest.
I was very impressed with the subtle transition from traditional to contemporary decor, as I walked through the home. This was Andrea’s solution to the homeowner’s request for modern design, in a home that has a more traditional exterior. We had a great time, showcasing the various spaces of the home. It was a great team effort, with Andrea’s detailed staging and my extensive lighting set ups. Here’s hoping we win some recognition at ASID. Click below to take the photo tour.
