Kitchen makeover by F1

Gary Kiesler & Zeljko Simic, the master craftsmen behind F1 Cabinets and Furniture, requested “before & after” shots of a re-modeled kitchen in Carefree Ranch. The visual transformation was very impressive, especially considering that the architecture remained relatively unchanged.

Down the Hassayampa

I got to ride along with an Arizona explorer and photographer, Ryan Sturgis. There was no trouble getting through the river bed thanks to his well equipped Toyota Tacoma. For this shot, I hiked up river barefoot on the soft wet sand and captured what was, in my opinion, the most scenic area of the trail.

NAPP Image of the Week

This shot of cappuccino pudding was selected as the Image of the Week by the Larry Becker, Executive Director of NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals). The image was taken at the Alto Restaurant at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale. It was one of 15+ recipes that we photographed, and the only one I sampled until it was gone. My concern over insulting the chefs, by not trying each of the dishes they offered, was replaced by the popularity I gained each time I passed another gourmet meal onto the staff.

Team effort

I originally photographed this contemporary home in Troon for Knoell & Quidort Architects, which was featured in Luxe several months later. Recently GM Hunt Builders contacted me to license the images for their advertising. Another example of how the best homes tend to be a collaboration between a great architect, builder, and designer + the skilled craftsman that work with them.

Christopher K. Coffin

I recently photographed a Paradise Valley home for prominent designer, Christopher K. Coffin. The feature will appear in the Fall 2010 edition of Luxe. This particular space, I was told was modeled after a Ralph Lauren store.

Alto at the Hyatt

On location in the Alto restaurant at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale, photographing food. This is certainly a departure from architecture and interiors, but it’s fun to try something new here and there.

Hearth & Home cover

Several weeks ago I received a call from Richard Wright, Editor of Hearth & Home magazine. He was interested in using my shot as a 2-page fold-out cover for his next issue. The patio is from a Fountain Hills home built by M.S Dudley Construction, with interiors by Kimberly Colletti of Treken Interiors.

Builder online

Just read an article on Portland 38 by JAG Development at Builder online. I photographed these modern lofts several years ago for owners, Allan & Benjamin Gutkin. I remember being impressed with how they managed to create affordable modern living. I also recall carrying my gear up and down the 3 story units, which gave me some exercise for the day.

NAPP Editor’s Choice

My shot was just selected as one of this week’s Editor’s Choice on the NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) website. I’ve been honored to have my work chosen 9 times since joining the group in 2008. The shots that seem to get noticed are my “before & after” comparisons, which demonstrate how time of day, lighting placement, and post-processing can have a dramatic impact on an image. NAPP is an excellent association to be part of if you want to vastly improve your Photoshop skills. I wish I had more time to utilize their fantastic resources!

Red Moon Custom Home in DC Ranch

I was contacted by Red Moon Custom Homes to photograph several spaces for an upcoming company advertisement in AZ Magazine. The DC Ranch residence, was designed with contemporary architecture and extensive stone finishes inside and out. The challenge was to find a exterior view that would tell the story of the home in a single shot. After an extensive walk-around we settled on this view, since it incorporated both interior and exterior design as well as fire and water features.
